THE ALCHEMY OF OIL PAINTING: AN INTRODUCTION Saturday January 21
with AMELIE JEROME Fee: $75
This workshop invites all who are interested in learning the basics of oil painting to come on a full day of technical and practical exploration of the medium. With attentive guidance participants will acquire a basic methodology as well as quirky tips in the making several successful oil paintings, guaranteed!
“Substances occupy the mind profoundly, tethering moods to thoughts, tangling stray feelings with the movement of the body, engaging the full capacity of response and concentrating it on unpromising lumps of paint and color. There is no meaning that cannot seem to flow from the paint itself.” James Elkins
What to bring:
- rags, plastic or glass jars, notebook
LEADER: AMELIE JEROME
Originally from Quebec, Amelie begins her fifth year living in Nova Scotia. Earning a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2010, she recently completed the year-long NSCAD - Lunenburg Community Studio residency, during which she taught workshops in drawing and painting and developed her explorations in abstract oil painting. She currently lives and paints in Stonehurst, Lunenburg.
a DAY OF monotype Printmaking Saturday February 11
with DAN O'NEILL Fee: $75
Monotype is essentially an arena where printmaking, painting and drawing coalesce. Monotype techniques produce a unique, one of a kind image on rag paper, that can be added to by repeated runs through an etching press, or can be augmented by the use of hand applied techniques that welcome drawing and painting. This workshop will introduce the basic monotype applications and approaches to manipulating the matrix, or surface, as well as giving each participant the opportunity to create images that will indeed contribute to their overall creative practice. As well, this workshop will cover the use of an etching press to "pull" the image and certain demonstrated hand-propelled techniques that will offer each participant an opportunity to advance and extend their creative endeavours.
What to bring:
- notebook, markmaking tools

INTRODUCTION TO SILKSCREEN PRINTING Saturday March 24
with KAT FRICK MILLER Fee: $75
The fascinating process of screen printing allows for the creation of multiple prints or experimentation with the one of a kind.
In this workshop we will explore both sides of this discipline by painting original compositions directly onto our screens and utilizing textile screen-printing techniques to print our images, in multiple, on cotton. We will have the opportunity to experiment with colour by mixing our own inks and printing in layers to produce multiple colour prints.
The results can later be used for many decorative purposes including bags, aprons or cushion covers or as a work of art in its own right or integrated into other works of art.
What to bring:
- sketchbook and pencils,
- a selection of acrylic or watercolour brushes if you have them,
- found cotton fabrics light-coloured solid or printed fabrics to experiment screen-printing on if you have any,
- apron
